A winning entry to the 2022 Belvoir Castle Flower and Garden Show, the Phoenix Border by Wyld Design was widely praised by horticultural and design experts, as well as members of the public. It was selected for display at the show by the London College of Garden Design.

The design celebrates the 30th anniversary of Aldershot Town Football Club, a ‘phoenix club’ which rose from the ashes of Aldershot FC in 1992. The planting is inspired by both the club’s colours of red and blue, as well as fiery tones, and surrounds a focal point of corrugated iron, symbolising the Recreation Ground, home of ‘The Shots’ for almost a century. An unusual feature-plant, a callistemon is the border’s literal phoenix: the seed capsules that form the flowers are held on the plant until wild-fires arrive, when they are released to bring new life from the ashes.
